Why Invest in
Brunei Darussalam?

South East Asia Foreign Direct Investment
  • Brunei Darussalam is strategically located in the center of Southeast Asia, along the East-West maritime trade route, and within the ASEAN region. This location gives Brunei easy access to major cities like Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and Jakarta, which are within two to three hours away by direct flight. Brunei's connectivity to the region's growing economies makes it an ideal location for export-oriented activities and for investors to reach a wider market base.

  • Brunei Darussalam is known for its political and economic stability, lush and green environment, and clean air. 75% of Brunei’s land area is covered in pristine rainforest and other eco-habits; 58% of its total land area is conserved under “Heart of Borneo” initiative.

  • The World Health Organization (WHO) has reported that the Sultanate is among the top 10 countries with the safest and cleanest air. Over 70% of Brunei is made up of lush, verdant jungles that have been kept out of human grasp for as long as they have been. The greatest remaining intact mangroves in northern Borneo are found in the coastal mangroves.

  • Brunei Darussalam has a young, highly educated, multilingual and tech-savvy workforce. The Government plays a proactive role in ensuring that its curriculum is aligned with industry needs. Recognizing that there may be shortages of qualified or trained manpower in specific or niche fields, the Government also provides a grant to help FDIs train their local employees.

  • There is no Personal Income, Sales, Payroll, Capital Gains and Manufacturing Tax. Companies applying for Pioneer Status are exempted from Corporate Income Tax and Import Duties on Raw Materials and Machinery.

  • Credible co-investment partnership is available with partners such as the Ministry of Finance and Economy’s Strategic Development Capital (“SDC”) Fund and various local equity funds.

  • Brunei Darussalam offers cost-competitive industrial parks equipped with essential utilities, specifically designed to house export-oriented FDI projects. The country permits companies to have 100% foreign ownership, enhancing its attractiveness to international investors. Additionally, a fast-track system is in place to streamline the process of securing development approvals and meeting operational requirements such as labor and customs. Brunei has reformed its business environment to ensure a simplified and conducive ecosystem for start-ups and investors, both local and international, and continues to strive for improvements in its Ease of Doing Business ranking.
